Cleaning hard-to-reach exterior windows can be a challenge without the right equipment. The main piece of equipment you need is an extension pole. Once you’ve got a great extension pole, follow these steps in our guide to cleaning high, hard-to-reach windows.
A perk of living in Phoenix, AZ, aka the Valley of the Sun, is that we have great weather nearly all year round. While cleaning windows in full sunlight is not recommended, it is still OK to clean windows almost any time of the year here in Phoenix as long as you have some cloud coverage. Direct sunlight, especially in the heat of our summers, can cause the cleaning solution to dry too quickly, leaving streaks. But if you have a bit of cloud coverage, you’ll be able to squeegee or wipe it off before it dries, leaving your windows clean and streak-free.
Cleaning windows on a sunny day can cause the cleaning solution to dry too quickly, which can lead to streaks. On a cloudy day, the cleaning solution has a chance to stay wet long enough for you to properly squeegee or wipe it off, resulting in a cleaner, streak-free window.
We recommend cleaning the interior and exterior of your windows at least twice a year or more, depending on the type of window and of course, depending on the weather. If the area you live in has had a particularly strong monsoon or storm season, increasing the frequency of your window cleaning may be needed.
The best homemade glass cleaner is a simple mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. This solution effectively cleans glass surfaces and is both cost-effective and eco-friendly. For tougher cleaning jobs, a mixture of one cup of rubbing alcohol, one cup of water, and one tablespoon of vinegar can be used. Check out our blog for more DIY window cleaning tips.
Some eco-friendly glass cleaning products include Method Glass + Surface Cleaner, Seventh Generation Free & Clear Glass & Surface Cleaner, and EBC Glide Glass & Window Cleaner. These products are made with environmentally friendly ingredients and are free from harsh chemicals. They’re safe for the environment and for use around children and pets.
Steel wool can be used on most types of glass, but it’s important to use the right grade. Super-fine #0000 grade steel wool is recommended for glass as it is lightly abrasive and won’t scratch the surface. However, it’s always a good idea to test a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure it doesn’t scratch the glass.
There are three main reasons to hire a professional window cleaning service.
The first is that it’s just hard work. To get the job done right, you have to scrub and dry every window, including the sills and tracks. This hard work and elbow grease leaves you with clean and streak-free windows, but
also exhaustion and a sore back.
The second reason to hire a professional window washer is that the hard work put in to get those streak-free windows takes a lot of time. We’re talking hours! We know you’ve got plenty of other things going on in your life
and taking an afternoon or an entire day off to wash your windows is not something most people have the luxury to do. Why use your day off to clean your windows when you could just hire a professional window washing service?
Last but certainly not least, hiring a professional window cleaning service is worth it because cleaning windows can be a dangerous job if you’re not used to doing it. Our window washers use ladders and other window cleaning
equipment every day. So, it’s something that they have experience with and are able to do without risk of injury. Those
hard-to-reach windows can be an accident waiting to happen. A reputable window cleaning service, like AZ Window Cleaners, will be insured for a high level of protection in the event of a worst-case scenario.
If done incorrectly, pressure washing can potentially damage windows. However, professionals use the right techniques and equipment to clean windows safely.
